Tacoma Fire Department will officially place a new ladder
tower, designated as Tower 2, in service following a tradition historically
known as a “push-in” ceremony. The celebration of welcoming a new apparatus has
been a source of pride for the fire service for over 100 years. The origin of
the ceremony dates back to horse-drawn equipment when the horse could not
back-up the fire engines and firefighters would unhitch the horses and “push-in”
the fire engine after returning from a call. The community is invited to attend
the ceremony.
