Debris Pile Fire in NE Tacoma/Fife Heights Area

Incident Date: 9/13/12
Issuing Officer:  BC Dave McRoberts & Joe Meinecke
Incident Location: 5300 block of 12th Street NE
Incident Type: Debris/Brush Fire

Narrative:  At 12:37 p.m. Tacoma Firefighters responded to a reported brush fire in the NE Tacoma/Fife Heights area.

Crews arrived to find brush and a large pile of debris on fire.  The debris pile contained tires and car parts and created a heavy smoke plume that could be seen throughout the area.  TFD's Tender apparatus was brought in to assist with a water supply due to the fires remote location (the Tender holds 3,000 gallons of water and is used when fire hydrants are unavailable) and Class A foam was mixed with the water to help extinguish the blaze and minimize the chance of flare-ups.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and there were no injuries to report.
