Early morning commercial structure fire on South 26th Street

Incident Date: 2/11/13
Issuing Officer: Joe Meinecke
Incident Location: 102 S. 26th Street
Incident Type: Commercial Structure Fire

Narrative:  At 3:43 a.m., firefighters from station 1,2,4,8, 9,11,17 responded to a reported commercial structure fire.

The first arriving crews found flames and smoke showing from the exterior of the 14,823 square foot former Kitchen and Bath retail distributor.  Crews worked quickly to knock down the flames that started in an exterior doorway alcove, and ventilated the smoke that had built up inside the vacant building.  Primary and secondary search revealed no occupants inside.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, originating from materials used in a homeless type shelter that was set up in the alcove. The fire resulted in an estimated $12,500 damage to the building and here were no injuries to report.
